The Ziemert model railway collection

Since 2018, the Esche Museum has owned the valuable model railway collection of the collector Wolfgang Ziemert (1939 - 2017).

It was his long-held wish to transfer the collection to the town of Limbach-Oberfrohna in order to realize a permanent exhibition in the Esche Museum.

In May 2022, after a long preparation, the new permanent exhibition area ‘Please get in!’ was opened. On display are H0 / 00 gauge model trains and equipment from the period between around 1945 and 1965, which were produced in the Soviet occupation zone and in the GDR. The scope and variety of this unique collection is impressive, with everything from home-made one-offs to mass-produced items. At the centre of the high-quality exhibition is a railway plate on which a train can be set in motion to retrace Wolfgang Ziemert's life. Display cases show the enormous range of collector's items and promise special highlights - not just for insiders. A collection cabinet fascinates with a selection of model railway equipment from various decades.
